The first Isfahan Artificial Intelligence Competition started on September 29th and saw over 100 teams composed of university faculty members, students, knowledge-based companies, and tech startups compete in six real-world challenges.

Over a four-month period, these teams utilized AI tools with an innovative approach based on real data and presented their initial results for evaluation by specialized judges. According to the judges’ assessments, 16 selected teams presented their final results and achievements to the competition’s steering committee, with their developed models being evaluated based on test data. Ultimately, two teams were awarded first and second place, and three teams received honorable mentions and were given prizes.

The second edition of this competition will begin in June 2024 and will conclude in October, coinciding with the second major Isfahan AI event.

This competition aims, one of the four pillars of the major Isfahan AI event, will be a small step towards further developing AI-driven technologies for real-world issues, enhancing data utilization in technical and managerial decision-making, and fostering innovative and technological businesses. These hopes will be realized with your continued support and cooperation.

Prizes for Winners:

$6,000 cash prizes + $6,000 credits to use the fast processing infrastructure (HPC Infrastructure) for one year to advance the winning project

Competition Structure:

 The competition is organized based on three main pillars: the organizing committee, specialized judges, and the steering committee. The organizing committee for the first edition consisted of university faculty members and AI experts, annually selected by the Isfahan Elite Foundation, which also forms the related secretariat. Dr. Mahnoush Tajmir Riahi is the secretary of the second edition of the Isfahan AI Competition. Specialized judges are chosen by the organizing committee based on the issues and challenges announced, and they are responsible for the initial evaluation of the teams, projects, and challenges. The steering committee comprises the top AI experts from Iran and around the world, tasked with selecting the final winners and setting the overall direction for the Isfahan AI event and competition.

Expected Challenge Outputs:

  1. An output file relevant to the specific challenge
  2. The developed code to solve the challenge along with an executable script
  3. A technical description file of the proposed solution in a defined format
  4. A 5-minute video explaining the code and execution

Competition rules

Teams must have at least 3 members.

Teams with at least one faculty member are preferred

Teams affiliated with research cores, growth centers, knowledge-based companies or technology companies are prioritized.

Each team can participate in a maximum of one challenge.

Each participant can only be in one team.
(with the exception of faculty members and presidents of knowledge-based companies)

The data is only provided to the supervisor of the approved teams.

In addition to the quantitative results for each challenge, the teams are required to submit a report including a description of the proposed method, program codes, and a short video explaining and executing the code.

Some challenges have specific conditions for the participating teams, which are stated in the challenge description.

The top teams of each challenge who are applying for a special award are required to present the method and results in person at the closing ceremony of the event. (November 1403)

At this stage, by quantitatively evaluating the results sent by the teams based on the test data and qualitatively evaluating the results and the proposed method according to the video file sent, the initial winners of each challenge are determined.

At this stage, the initial winners of each challenge explain their results and proposed solution in a face-to-face meeting. The final winners of the awards will be determined at this stage.
